The Six Characteristics of Families Essay - 715 Words

According to Garris L. Christian (2006) he describes the six characters of families, which are based on their own unique beliefs, cultural context, and family tradition. Three of the six characteristics that strongly resonate to me are role, rule, and hierarchy. Role family can be described as never good enough, peacemaker, everyone feels responsible within the family, a lot of activities, over worked, helpful at home, and/or outside. Each role has certain behavioral expectations. Those characteristics of the families’ role are very positive behavior, but there can also be negative consequences. The rule families follow the tradition of the oldest person in the family setting the standards and loyalty to the parents, brothers or sisters.†¦show more content†¦Base on Garris guide, â€Å"Look for her other strengths and channel her energies in that direction† (Garris, 2006). As the educator, we need to see the whole child develop, in order for us to help a child learn the new roles or develop their potentials. If a child has this potential, he or she will have other potential, which relate to each other. It is important for the educator to recognize the individual child and set up the environment for them to engage in the various roles. Family system may influence the child behavior. Children are usually influenced by their parents. often based significantly on what is characterized parental style. I have a good friend who come from a very wealthy family. She seems like a boss and control over of all friends. She had high expectation. Her son is first grade in my program now. Sometime the things happen to her, even about material or breaking rules, or conflict between people. Group of my friend worried for her. We felt that very serious thing happen and try to help her, but with the cold express and then she always told us, â€Å"That’s nothing†. Fortunate, later on her child was in my school where I worked before. Every rule family can be different, depending on the standards of the family beliefs, values and situations.
